"Pan Am" could fly once again -- online with Amazon. According to Deadline.com, Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV are in talks to continue the canceled ABC drama as part of Amazon's streaming service.
ABC pulled the plug on the 1960s-set drama after one season. The show took off strong in September 2011 -- the premiere had an audience of more than 11 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic -- but quickly plummeted in ratings. The ABC finale in February 2012 had an audience of 3.8 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.
Sony has a history of fighting to keep its shows alive. When FX canceled the critically-acclaimed "Damages," Sony took the series to DirecTV. NBC's fan-favorite, yet low-rated comedy "Community" is also backed by Sony.
"Pan Am" was recently honored with a Rose d'Or award, one of the top honors in media in Europe. The series featured Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Margot Robbie and Karine Vanasse as jet-setting flight attendants with Pan Am. The episodes featured the main characters exploring exotic locales around the world, dabbling in the spy world and witnessing great moments in history.
