Quinn, Brady Look To Illinois Chamber Of Commerce For Support

Gov. Pat Quinn says when he gets the state budget from the Legislature, he'll spell out specific spending cuts. And he wants to do that by the end of the month. His opponent, Sen. Bill Brady, says he will reverse hostile business environment in Illinois.

Both Quinn and Brady are lookong for an edorsement from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and addressed the chamber Friday. The Associated Press reports:

Quinn told the business organization he's the "jobs governor" and knows how to lure new businesses to the state. He says he believes in targeted tax credits for businesses.

Quinn says Brady was "a little gloomy" in his speech and that naysayers won't put Illinois' economy back on track.

Brady, whose budget plan has also been unclear, told the group he knows "what it's like to struggle in a state that seems to constantly attack you."

Brady sought to tie Democratic rival Gov. Pat Quinn to predecessor Rod Blagojevich's efforts to raise taxes on businesses, saying he would do the opposite and cut taxes to spur economic growth.

Brady also stressed the need for medical malpractice reform and called on voters to oust Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride, saying he's single-handedly used his position to block efforts to overhaul malpractice laws in Illinois.

Last week, chamber president Doug Whitley said that Gov. Quinn was "on a roll" after Quinn signed a measure overhauling the state's telecommunications law, the Tribune reports.

"Anyone who thinks we're on a roll is mistaken. I think we're being rolled by the governor," Brady said.
