Pearl Jam Plays 'Black' For The First Time At 1990 Concert (VIDEO)

WATCH: The First Time Pearl Jam Played 'Black'

Because it's a slow news week (and also just because it's awesome), RollingStone.com has unearthed at 1990 video of Pearl Jam playing the song "Black" for the first time in public.

As die hard Pearl Jam fans know, the band playing "Black" at Seattle's Off Ramp Cafe on Oct. 22, 1990 wasn't actually called Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready and former drummer Dave Krusen played the Off Ramp show under the name "Mookie Blaylock," a former basketball player who then played for the New Jersey Nets. (The band changed the name because of a rights issue.)

In addition to "Black," the Off Ramp concert featured the first public performances of "Release," "Alive," "Once," "Breath" and "Even Flow." Most of those songs would all go on to appear on Pearl Jam's debut album Ten, while "Breath" was one of two Pearl Jam songs on the "Singles" soundtrack.

Watch the vintage clip above, and listen to Pearl Jam perform "Black" at the band's 10th anniversary show in Las Vegas on Oct. 22, 2000.
