Alex Smith is the best quarterback in the National Football League, according to Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson.

"Ultimately, every team has to have a quarterback. I think we have the best in the league," Pederson told The Kansas City Star. "There are a lot of great ones, but over time, Alex has proven he can get it done. He's a sharp guy, he brings a wealth of knowledge, he's experienced, he's a proven winner the last couple of years, and he needs a team to embrace him."

Of course, Pederson's claim was met with criticism from some in the media.

Pederson should be familiar with elite quarterbacks. The 12-year NFL veteran spent seven seasons as a backup to Brett Favre in Green Bay, even winning a championship alongside the Gunslinger when the Packers beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.
