Penn Station Evacuation: Police Empty New York City Transit Hub After Reports Of Suspicious Package

Police Evacuate Penn Station After Reports Of Suspicious Package

Parts of Penn Station in New York City were temporarily evacuated on Thursday evening following reports of a suspicious package, NBC New York reported.

According to CBS New York, the package was reported to authorities at 10:13 p.m.

The NYPD Bomb Squad was called in to inspect the package, which was found near Track 15, WABC-TV reported. An unnamed officer told The New York Daily News that a police dog circled the package twice and sat down.

New York Police Department officers moved swiftly to get all commuters and staff out of the building, then blocked the entrances to the station to keep the public at a safe distance.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said all subway service coming in and out of Penn Station was suspended due to the police activity. Long Island Rail Road train service was also halted.

About an hour after the incident began, police gave the "all clear," and service to and from the hub was restored, WABC-TV reported. The NYCT subway service Twitter feed also confirmed that subway service had resumed with "residual delays."
