BUSTED: Teacher Caught With 53 Pounds Of Pot In Car

Percy Melton puts new meaning into higher education.

The 40-year-old Elsik High School science teacher was allegedly caught with 53 pounds of marijuana in her car. Melton, was pulled over Tuesday morning while driving in Louisiana on Interstate 10, KHOU-TV reported.

The officer that pulled her over noticed Melton was acting suspicious and asked to search her vehicle.

After she refused, a K-9 went to work and alerted the detective there were narcotics inside the car, KRIV-TV reported. A subsequent search discovered about 53 pounds of pot wrapped in cellophane and trash bags, inside two duffel bags.

Melton was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to the Houston Chronicle. The pot is reportedly worth around $120,000.

She was booked at the Calcasieu Correctional Center and her bond is still pending, KATC-TV reported.

Officials at the school where Melton teaches told KPRC-TV that they have not received any official confirmation that she was arrested, but said that once that's confirmed she will be placed on administrative leave.
