Photos Of Sloths Document Monique Pool Rescuing Animals After Suriname Home Destroyed (VIDEO)

One woman's efforts to save homeless sloths has landed her with hundreds of the cuddly forest dwellers, leading her to become "slothified," a word she's coined that means "overwhelmed by sloth." Kristen Bell, eat your heart out.

The short film follows Monique Pool, a sloth rescuer and founder of the Green Heritage Fund Suriname. Conservation International visited Pool shortly after she rescued more than 200 sloths when 16 acres of forest were cleared for a cattle farm last October.

She harbors the animals for a few days before releasing them back into the wild, usually caring for one or two at a time. A recent rash of deforestation led Pool to take in dozens of homeless anteaters, porcupines and sloths, including mothers and babies that will need care for several months. Many of the rescued animals were Bradypus tridactylus, a species of three-toed sloths only found in the Guiana Shield.
