Alecia Moore, otherwise known as Pink, didn't always feel like a beautiful cover girl. In fact, she says that her "butch" image had people telling her she would never make it to the pages of magazine.
In a recent interview with Redbook, Pink sounds off on her "butch" image.
"A girl like me' is someone who doesn't rest on her looks, who has had people tell me from day one, 'You're never going to get magazine covers because you're not pretty enough,'" she told Redbook for the March issue of the magazine. "I'm totally comfortable with that. I know my strong points: I work hard, I have talent, I'm funny, and I'm a good person."
"I was always considered butch," she tells Redbook. Continuing, "Beautiful has never been my goal. Joy is my goal — to feel healthy and strong and powerful and useful and engaged and intelligent and in love."
Speaking of love, the 33-year-old singer has been a vocal advocate for same-sex marriage.
Before the election in the fall, Pink told GayRadio that she hopes one day "It's not a ‘gay marriage,' it’s just ‘a marriage.'" She also vocalized her opinions in the 2006 song to George W. Bush, "Dear Mr. President," in which she sings, "What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?"
Pink, who has been the subject of gay rumors, has long been supported by her LGBT fans.
“They’ve been the most loyal part of what I do," she told The Advocate in October. "They’ve been my most loyal friends, to be honest. I’ve had a lot of my gay boys around, but my gay girls are my rootstalk. They’re my honesty in an ocean of bullshit. I should be gay by the way that I look and the way that I am. I just happen to not be. But it just makes perfect and complete sense.”
