Patrycja German: More Lust/Less Suffering

The MAK Center for Art & Architecture presents a performance by MAK Center Artist in Residence Patrycja German, held in the newly constructed Garage Top over the rear garages at the R.M. Schindler Mackey Apartments. German's practice, centered around performative intervention, plays off of an audience's assumed relationship with a performer, and seeks way of sharing responsibility for the project with her viewers.

Geoffrey Farmer: Let's Make the Water Turn Black

Now on view at the Gallery at REDCAT, Geoffrey Farmer's Let's Make the Water Turn Black, curated by Aram Moshayedi. Known for his cumulative, research-based projects, Farmer creates context-specific sculptural works mined from a diverse array of literary and artistic histories. In this exhibition, Farmer transforms the gallery space into a studio workshop and theatrical space where an assembly of performers and mechanized objects act out a narrative in the form of a sculptural tableau. The discrete installations will be on view as Farmer is in-residence to create a new site-specific "sculpture play," to debut on March 5.

LACE presents GUTTED 2011, LACE'S Annual Winter Benefit. For the second year in a row, Dino Dinco curates an ensemble of live performances, texts, and objects speaking of, from, and to the body. Participating artists include: Karen Anzoategui, Micha Cardenas, Mariel Carranza, Alexis Disselkoen, Monica Duncan, Cara Elizabeth, Rafa Esparza, Keith Hennessy, Dawn Kasper, Simone Gad, Brian Getnick, Raquel Gutierrez & Lady Noise, Tania Hammidi, Elle Mehrmand, Taisha Paggett, Paul Pescador, Julie Tolentino & Stosh Fila aka Pigpen, Samuel White, and Dorian Wood. Also on display, a selection of 2D and 3D art works from Juan Martin del Campo, Jr., Rigo Maldonado, Letizia Ragusa, and Jimena Sarno with programming by Dennis Cao.

David Robbins

Artist and writer David Robbins gives a lecture on his practice, which investigates the intersections between art, entertainment, and comedy. Robbins, best known for Talent, eighteen "entertainer's headshots" of contemporary artists, including Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons, Jenny Holzer, and others, and his work The Ice Cream Social, a project of installations, performances, a novella, a TV pilot, and numerous other media that represents an emphatically American version of some of the exhibition strategies employed by artists associated with relational aesthetics. David Robbins will also participate in USC's MFA Lecture Series on Wednesday, February 23 at 12pm.
