wild Up Spacial Music Series

From September through December wild Up presents four distinct projects inspired by the Hammer's unique public spaces. With the Hammer's architecture as a subject, wild Up artists create site-specific projects that investigate the social and sonic nature of public space. This month the Hammer presents Familiar Architectures, where five cellists attempt to play Bach's Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello simultaneously in a variety of spatial and sonic arrangements. This site-specific work by Chris Kallmyer uses familiar materials to create something new in the unique spaces of the museum.

Presented by the Fontbron Academy, this free event features artists Robert Fontentot and Micol Hebron giving a Powerpoint presentation on the latest trends in forward momentum. Topics include advanced walking techniques, boats, inaction, the consequences of unanticipated flight, and crawling. Artists to be discussed include Chris Burden, Trisha Brown, Gelatin, Gericault, Richard Jackson, and Yves Klein.

The Art of the Crossfade

The Santa Monica Museum of Art continues its Collection of Ideas lecture series with Crossfader. Curated by USC professor Josh Kun, this program series uses music to mix and connect diverse communities through performance. This series' first event features a set by DJ J.Period and a discussion by Kun. Tickets are $10 and available online.
