The Revolution returns.

"Purple Rain," the landmark 1984 movie that boosted Prince to international superstardom, returns to U.S. theaters this weekend as a tribute to the music icon, who died this week at his home in Minnesota.

"Purple Rain," with Prince in the lead role, tells the story of the Kid and his band, The Revolution, navigating the Minneapolis music scene and turbulent relationships. The movie, released with Prince’s album of the same name, won the musician an Oscar for best original song score.

The album contains Prince's chart-toppers, "When Doves Cry" and "Let’s Go Crazy."

AMC, the largest U.S. theater chain, announced the return of "Purple Rain" on Friday, the day after Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park home. The film will show in 87 AMC theaters starting April 23, and will run through April 28.

"Purple Rain" also returns to the screen at 80 Carmike theaters, according to Variety.
