Raccoons Infiltrate South Florida School, Pee On Student (VIDEO)

Raccoons Invade School, Pee On Student

Wild raccoons have invaded the Woodlands Middle School in Lake Worth, Fla., and parents are reaching out to WPEC-TV to break the school's silence,.

"Nothing. No phone calls, no letters came home. Nothing, not a word," one mother told the station.

One student, whose name is being withheld to protect their privacy, told WPEC the infestation scared students.

"You can hear them in the class running from upstairs," the student said. "It's freaky."

One student even told the station that urine from one of the animals dripped onto a male classmate from the ceiling above.

The Palm Beach County Health Department inspected the school and confirmed the raccoon population. The school now has 30 days to get rid of the animals before the inspectors return.

Raccoons aren't the only animals disturbing Florida school days. Last year, a mischievous squirrel set off the fire alarm at Blackburn Elementary in Ellenton, Fla.. The silly critter was eventually caught and set free.

Last month, the Associated Press reported that a study found a growing population of giant pythons seemed to be wiping out large amounts of the raccoon, opossums and bobcat populations in the West Palm Beach area.

The research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, stated that appearances of medium-sized mammals are down as much as 99 percent in areas the large pythons are lurking.
