Reflecting on 2015: What Images Inspire You?

Images can accomplish in a glance what we try to persuade others of every day. We, who fight to end global poverty and promote human dignity, can quickly get into the minutia of microfinancing in Iraq or improving food security in Togo - and that is important.

Images can accomplish in a glance what we try to persuade others of every day. We, who fight to end global poverty and promote human dignity, can quickly get into the minutia of microfinancing in Iraq or improving food security in Togo – and that is important. But we don’t do this work only because it’s technically challenging or innovative; we do it because of how lives can change.

It’s really the joy that comes from genuine change – the pride on the face of an Iraqi woman who now owns her own small business or the excitement of a community surrounding new agricultural technology – that demonstrates the impact of local investments and partnerships in a compelling way, and speaks to those outside of our sector.

If you are like me, this time of year is an opportunity to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. And as you reflect, it’s important to remember the visual and emotional highpoints. What good have you seen in the world and in your work over the past year?

With our photography contest, InterAction seeks to highlight compelling examples of global development and humanitarian assistance. For almost 15 years, we have celebrated images that represent the resilience and determination of the communities we partner with, and this year we are excited to see what moments you – the global community – bring forward. All photographers, amateur and professional, are encouraged to submit their best examples of partnership, innovation, and self-reliance.

Together, let us share the stories of confidence and resilience. Let’s remind the public, our partners, and ourselves of the encouraging progress and advancements people everywhere made in 2015. And let’s recommit to a new year full of challenges, but also human potential.
