Acting Up! Drama Teacher Accused Of Sexting Student

A 41-year-old drama teacher at a California high school was arrested after police said he sent sexual text messages to an underage student, KXTV reports.

Rocklin, Calif., police believe complaints from a 17-year-old former student at Whitney High School, who said that the school's drama teacher, Richard Eldredge sent her texts requesting sex and nude photos, according to Fox 40. The alleged illicit communications took place over roughly one month.

Eldredge was arrested Dec. 23 and charged with unlawful contact with a child for sexual purposes, according to KCRA. Officials with the Rocklin Unified School District said that he's taught at Whitney since 2005 and has not had other disciplinary problems.

The district placed Eldredge on leave Dec. 11, after police informed administrators of the allegations.

The Sacramento-area school district distributed a memo to parents about the alleged sex scandal, Place County Online reported.

According to the memo, a certified replacement will take over Eldredge's classes, and the district will attempt to find a qualified director to take over the school's upcoming production of the musical, "Evita."
