Richard Linklater: Making 'Everybody Wants Some!!' Was An Uphill Battle

But it wasn't quite as difficult as getting the green light to make "Dazed and Confused."

Richard Linklater's laid-back depiction of college baseball bros in his newest film "Everybody Wants Some!!" has been a long time in the making (although, admittedly, not quite as long as the run-up to his 2014 film "Boyhood.")

Speaking to HuffPost film reporter Matthew Jacobs, Linklater explained that his new film was nearly greenlighted in 2009, but faced road bumps for myriad reasons.

"It's a hard film to get funded. I called it a spiritual sequel to 'Dazed [and Confused],' but they were like, 'Eh it's no-name actors.' All the reasons they don't make films like this. So I feel very fortunate that I finally got it made," he said.

While "Everybody Wants Some!!" was tough to make, it wasn't nearly as difficult as "Dazed," which he acknowledged was a "super challenging hassle" likely because he was a younger, less experienced director at the time.

"This was the opposite. Everything was so supportive and wonderful. Maybe it's my own veteran status at this point," he said.

"Everybody Wants Some!!" is in theaters now.
