There is no love lost between former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), the longtime congressman said Monday.
Speaking on Fox Business News, host Neal Cavuto told Paul that it "sounds like you're not a Christie fan."
"That would be safe to say," Paul replied, weighing in on a recent spat between his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and the popular Republican governor, both of whom are considered top contenders for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination. Paul went on to say that he couldn't support Christie in 2016, if it came down to that.
'He's not going to have a change of heart. He's a big government person," Paul said. "It would be similar to the last go-around, I couldn't endorse our candidate."
Paul never endorsed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012.
Sen. Paul and Christie recently engaged in a public war of words, which featured Christie criticizing Paul's libertarian beliefs and Paul accusing Christie of supporting reckless government spending and overreach. Paul's father, who had earlier suggested the spat was "irrelevant," told Cavuto that he believed they both could have spent their time debating more substantive topics.
"I don't like the bickering back and forth," he said. "I think it was significant debate -- one person blasting those of us who believe in liberty and saying you shouldn't be that critical of government. That is significant, but still again two politicians going at it. I would much rather talk about why we should have a Fed or why we shouldn't."
Paul, a staunch opponent of the Fed, went on to suggest that people could hear more of that kind of discussion on The Ron Paul Channel, an internet-only network that launched on Monday.
