Good Samaritan Shot Dead After Trying To Break Up Domestic Violence

Man Shot Dead After Trying To Break Up Domestic Abuse

Witnesses say that a Texas man who attempted to break up a domestic violence incident was shot and killed by the same people he wanted to help.

Rubin Brown, 27, suffered multiple gunshot wounds early Thursday morning, when a suspect in South Dallas fired "upwards of 23 bullets into his house and car," NBC DFW reports.

Witnesses told police that Brown and his brother had just returned inside after a fight between a couple broke out on their lawn.

Quenetha Bell, Brown’s fiancée, described the scene. According to the Dallas Morning News:

“[The woman] was running from him,” she said. “He picked her up and dunked her on the car. She was asking us for help. We said, ‘We have kids here, don’t be fighting here. You’ve got to take that somewhere else.’”

She said the woman continued to plead, and at some point, Brown’s brother punched the man to stop him from driving away. The punch apparently angered the woman who was being beaten, Bell said, and the couple promised to return and settle things.

"They drove off and said they'd be back. We thought nothing of it," Demetric Young, Brown's friend who witnessed the event, said. "[Brown] was just being a Good Samaritan."

The family called the police, who arrived around 12:30 a.m., according to reports. An hour later, moments after authorities left the scene, Brown's home came under fire.

"Rubin was playing a game in the living room. He was trying to duck down when he heard the shots and they shot him in his heart, his lungs and his kidney," Bell told MyFoxDFW. Bell was also inside the home, ducking for cover with her 2-year-old son.

Brown was transported to Baylor Medical Center Dallas, where he later died, CBS DFW reports.

Police have not arrested anyone in the case, nor have they released information about the suspects.
