Today in slightly thin and not-surprising news: Page Six reports that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliiani saw "Ted" in the Hamptons and didn't laugh at one of the jokes.
The allegedly ill-received line was part of a conversation between (spoiler alert) the talking teddy bear and Norah Jones, who has a cameo in the film. Ted asks Jones where she's from, then hastily follows up with the throwaway line, "Whatever. Thanks for 9/11."
According to the Post's sources, folks realized Giuliani was seated in the Southampton picture house when a technical glitch (it's the Hamptons, a rough place!) caused the lights to come up. The kicker? Apparently the audience had "too much respect" for Giuliani to laugh at a joke about the tragedy.
Deemed "America's Mayor" in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Giuliani would later go on to run for president. His incessant references to 9/11 eventually turned his campaign into a late night comedian's dream, with many a skit lampooning him for turning the devastating events into tired political applause line. (A group of family members of those who died in the attacks spent much of his campaign railing against him, with one particular 9/11-centric ad drawing the most ire.)
This time around, the former mayor has endorsed Mitt Romney.
