Ryan Gosling's Therapist Basically Told Him To Lighten Up

Hey girl, why you so sad?

Most of Ryan Gosling's on-screen roles can essentially be reduced to a single emoji, 🍆 -- Scratch that, we meant to type 😢 . Either he's a deadbeat divorcée with a drinking problem or a Hollywood stuntman drawn to a life of crime. The LOLs are few and far between.

So it makes sense that Gosling's one-time therapist would dole out some advice to help the actor do away with the sads.

"A long time ago, I went to see a shrink," Gosling told Evening Standard magazine in a recent interview. "He wrote me a prescription that said: ‘Do comedy.’”

Gosling apparently took the message to heart, as his most recent films like "The Big Short" and "Nice Guys" both fall within the comedy genre. He's also set to appear with Emma Stone in "La La Land," a musical comedy about a relationship between a jazz pianist and an actress. Take that, therapist!

“What’s nice with comedy is that you know it’s working if it’s funny,” he said. “With drama, you can watch people in the wings [of a theater] and you don’t know if they are suffering [with you] through your movie or they are just deeply bored."

There's no sound more sweet than a Gosling giggle, so we are 100% on board with this new direction. Don't believe us? Just try and not laugh while watching Gosling break character in this "SNL" sketch. It can't be done.
