Sam Waterston Fools 'Colbert,' Blames Hillary Clinton For '60 Minutes' Benghazi Apology

Colbert & Sam Waterston Blame Hillary Clinton For '60 Minutes' Scandal

Just as "60 Minutes" was apparently fooled on October 27, Stephen Colbert was "fooled" on "The Colbert Report."

The CBS newsmagazine recently ran a correction on the story they ran about the attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans. In the original story, a man claimed to have been there, but his story was ultimately proven false.

Colbert pretended to fall for a similar ruse in a bit where a "60 Minutes" college intern named Poncho Denews claimed he was there when Hillary Clinton forced the network to air the correction.

"It was Hillary Clinton," the "intern" said. "She was swinging a bike chain and yelling, "We're here to kill the story!" But then came the big reveal. It wasn't an intern at all. Pulling off his beard and mustache revealed Charlie Skinner of ACN, "as profiled in the HBO documentary 'The Newsroom.'"

Okay, it was actually Sam Waterston, who plays Skinner on the dramatic show. He even went into a very Aaron Sorkin-esque speech about journalistic integrity. It was a hilarious cameo, and as Waterston was in character, we're counting it as a chapter in the ongoing "Newsroom" saga.

Tune in to "The Colbert Report" every Monday through Thursday at 11:30 p.m. EST on Comedy Central.
