The forthcoming final 10 episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” are making us all kinds of nostalgic for the show’s humble beginnings. Now, a new video is showing us how different the show could have been.
As it turns out, Sasha Pieterse, who plays Ali DiLaurentis on PLL, was almost cast as Hanna Marin. The role ultimately went to Ashley Benson. But after watching the clip below, we can see why Pieterse gave Benson a run for her money. Pieterse read a scene as Hanna at PaleyFest this weekend, and to be honest, she’s pretty spot-on.
Pieterse is good as Hanna, there’s no doubt ― but she’s great as Ali.
Shay Mitchell, who plays Emily, and Ashley Benson also did a scene together at the PaleyFest panel, with Mitchell playing Hanna and Benson playing Emily.
Hearing the girls read each other’s roles only cements the fact that they are perfectly cast as is. One thing’s for sure: We’re not ready to say goodbye to these Liars!
“Pretty Little Liars” returns Tuesday, April 18, on Freeform.
