National Republicans are urging former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) to consider running for Senate in New Hampshire.
The Boston Globe reports Sens. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who serve as chairman and vice chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, have urged Brown to challenge Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) who, as of now, is likely to win reelection in 2014.
“He knows of our interest in him pursuing this,” Moran said.
A poll released by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling in September showed Brown would be Shaheen's strongest Republican challenger if he decided to run. In the PPP poll, Shaheen beat Brown in a hypothetical race by just 4 points (48 percent to 44 percent).
Brown has said he is considering a run in the Granite State. In April 2013, he said wouldn't "rule out anything" and that "nothing's off the table."
Brown filed the paperwork in October to create a New Hampshire-based political action committee called the People’s Seat PAC. He's even made appearances in New Hampshire where he's emphasized his ties to the state.
"I think it's important to note, I do have ties to New Hampshire," Brown said in April. "For me to be here is not unusual. I have nine generations of ties to New Hampshire."
Moran said he thinks Brown is seriously considering a challenge to Shaheen.
“I don’t think Scott Brown is just fooling around,” Moran said, according to the Globe.
Former New Hampshire state Sen. Jim Rubens was the first Republican to announce a challenge to Shaheen, making his plans known in Sept. 2013.
