Seth Meyers had a lot of material to work with on Monday night.
In addition to hammering Donald Trump over his recent comments praising authoritarian dictators, the “Late Night” host ridiculed the president for wondering why the Civil War “could not have been worked out.”
During an interview with the Washington Examiner’s Salena Zito, Trump said, “People don’t ask that question, but why was there the Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?”
Meyers had the perfect response to that very question.
“Trump clearly does not have a firm grasp on the basic aspects of being president, let alone basic facts about American history,” Meyers said. He added: “There’s a reason Abraham Lincoln is on the $5 instead of Alex Trebek.”
