Shawn Custis Arraignment: New Jersey Nanny Cam 'Attacker' Due In Court

Nanny Cam 'Attacker' Due In Court

Shawn Custis, the man caught on camera allegedly attacking a Millburn mom as her daughter looked on, is set to be arraigned in a New Jersey court on Tuesday.

Custis, 42, was arrested Friday in Manhattan, New York after the alleged beating. He faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree burglary, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to an Essex County Prosecutor's Office release.

He is accused of breaking into the home at 10 a.m. and assaulting the unidentified woman in front of her 3-year-old daughter. Another child was in the house at the time. A hidden nanny cam caught part of the attack, in which a man can be seen punching and kicking the woman before throwing her down the basement stairs.

The woman suffered a concussion, a leg injury, bruises and chipped teeth. She told reporters that she was afraid to cry out because if her daughter also screamed, she might be attacked too, according to the New York Daily News.

Neither child was injured in the attack.

After Custis' arrest Friday, a judge set his bail at $750,000. He reportedly has a criminal record that dates back to the early 1990s.
