Shep Gordon's reputation as a leading music manager has earned him the spotlight in the upcoming documentary "Supermensch," directed by Mike Myers. But that doesn't mean Gordon didn't make some judgement lapses along the way. Like this one: the 1991-film "Cool As Ice," which he executive produced. The Vanilla Ice vehicle received an 8 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been dubbed one of the worst movies of all time.
Gordon told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri that he regretted how the critically-panned film hurt director David Kellogg's career, as Gordon felt Kellogg did "such an amazing job," in spite of the film's lead, Vanilla Ice, not being "the greatest actor."
But Vanilla Ice's diva-tude was a bigger issue for the crew than his lack of acting chops, and Gordon knew that he'd need the help of a certain famous friend if he hoped to get in the "Ice Ice Baby" singer's good graces.
"I said [to the crew] 'he's not going to listen to me, he's never met me. Find out if he's got a hero,'" Gordon recounted. "Sylvester Stallone was his hero. So I called up Sylvester and I said, 'I got a real problem.'"
The two headed over to Vanilla Ice's temporary home in Malibu, where they all sat and watched a boxing match.
"Ice didn't say a word, he was so star struck," Gordon recalled. "We left and boom: we never had a problem." At least until the movie came out.
