Sheryl Sandberg Posts Emotional Tribute To Late Husband On His Birthday

"We will always celebrate the day of your birth."

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg honored the memory of her late husband’s 49th birthday with a touching tribute she posted to the social media site.

“Today would have been my husband Dave Goldberg’s 49th birthday,” Sandberg posted Sunday night. “As my children and I do every day, we miss him and mourn that he was taken from us so suddenly and so soon. We miss his smile, his generosity, his wisdom, and his love.”

Goldberg, the CEO of Survey Monkey, died suddenly in May 2015 from a cardiac arrhythmia while on vacation in Mexico.

Sandberg noted that his birthday fell on the eve of the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashana, which she wrote provided the “perfect spirit to honor his memory.”

“We focus on new beginnings, giving to others, and seeking forgiveness,” she added.

Earlier this year, Sandberg spoke publicly about the death of her husband for the first time, telling graduates of the University of California, Berkeley, that she “learned about the depths of sadness and the brutality of loss.”

She added, “But I also learned that when life sucks you under, you can kick against the bottom, break the surface and breathe again.”
