Shocking Finding: Confidence Matters More Than Competence

The authors of The Confidence Code said they were astonished when their research revealed this finding and, frankly, depressed.

Journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman said for years women thought their natural talents would be recognized, and they were irritated when men would get promoted over them and reel in more raises.

The women knew these men weren't any more competent than they were. But, it turns out, these men had an invaluable commodity: confidence.

The reason confidence is such a hot commodity is because when you're confident you advocate for yourself. You take risks. You push the limits.

I'm grateful for these journalists who are showing us the caped magic of confidence. But the best magic of all is the authors' empowering message that confidence is a choice.
