Simpsons Theme Park, 'Springfield,' Opening At Universal Orlando This Summer (VIDEO)

D'oh! Simpsons Theme Park Opening This Summer

Coming to a theme park near you: D'oh!

The Simpsons, once relegated to the animated land of make-believe, have found a decidedly real-world venue: Orlando's Universal Studios. The amusement hub announced Thursday it plans to open "Springfield," a Simpsons theme-park of sorts, sometime this summer.

Feeling thirsty? Grab a Duff's beer at Moe's Tavern. Hungry? Moe's will serve up Krusty Burgers. And for dessert, Lard Lad's Donuts is just down the street.

NY Daily News reports the park will revolve around a Simpsons ride that has been at the park since 2008, in addition to a new ride, themed around the show's alien characters, Kang & Kodos' Twirl & Hurl.

Universal's strategy with the area likely follows that of the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter," a similar mini-park featuring themed restaurants and attractions that once were only figments of the imagination. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the themed restaurants and shops have led to a big boost in visitors' spending habits there.
