Soldier's Helmet Cam Video Of Firefight With Insurgents In Kunar Province Goes Viral

WATCH: Soldier Draws Fire Away From Squad In Afghanistan

"I got a hit a total of 4 times," reads a video description on YouTube, posted by a U.S. soldier after a recent firefight against insurgents in Afghanistan. "My helmet cam died and i made it down the mountain on my own."

The unnamed cameraman in the video was reportedly in Kunar Province, a violent region in Afghanistan's northeast, surveying a village "to recon and gather intel," when his unit took on machine gun fire. Thankfully, according to the description, the soldier survived without taking on any permanent injuries.

"The rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire," the soldier recalls on YouTube. "I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety."

According to News.com, the YouTube channel was originally established by a Canadian Afghanistan war vet. That veteran also created 'Military Minds,' a support group dedicated to raising awareness of PTSD.

The video footage is part of an ongoing series documenting the war in Afghanistan, notes Gawker. You can read more from the cameraman on YouTube.
