Soren Dahlgaard Portrait Series Covers Faces With Dough (PHOTOS)

There's something a bit jarring about looking at a portrait with a covered face. But when the face is covered by dough, it becomes almost whimsical. Artist Soren Dahlgaard started this photo series in the National Art Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2008. Since then, the series has traveled to 10 additional countries.

In an email to The Huffington Post, Soren explains that each person participating in this portrait series kneads the dough -- a familiar and fun process that results in the creation of a unique work of art. "Identity and dough are both universal, so everybody can relate," he explains. He has a point -- many cultures use dough, from baguettes to naan, noodles to donuts. In Soren's case, he treats dough a a sculptural material that just happens to be edible when cooked or baked.
