President Obama delivered the State of the Union address Tuesday night -- the second of his presidency. Like all State of the Union speeches, this was a momentous occasion; but given the still dire state of the economy and the polarization within the electorate, many in the lead-up to Tuesday designated this particular speech the most important in decades.

In it the president called for changing the rules of the game. And as many predicted he focused especially on jobs and the future of American competitiveness. But there are also important and pressing issues that he left out. So, in what ways was this speech a success, or failure? What issues remain neglected? How did the Republican response -- delivered by Wisconsin's Paul Ryan -- compare?
