Stephen Piscotty Injured In Horrific Outfield Collision (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

The Cardinals rookie suffered a 'head contusion' in the incident.

Stephen Piscotty, outfielder of the St. Louis Cardinals, was taken off the field on a cart after a frightening collision with center fielder Peter Bourjos in the seventh inning of Monday night's game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. 

Footage from the game shows Piscotty and Bourjos chasing a fly ball deep in the left-center field gap. Piscotty dives in an attempt to catch the ball and slams his head and neck hard into Bourjos' knee.  

The team announced on Twitter that Piscotty suffered a "head contusion" and was sent to a local hospital. Tests came back negative, but he was being kept overnight for observation

Bourjos, who caught the ball, immediately waved to the dugout for help for his fallen teammate.  

For several heart-stopping moments after the collision, Piscotty lay motionless on the outfield grass:

Piscotty was placed into a cart and driven off the field. However, as he was taken away, he managed to wave -- eliciting a roar from the fans in Pittsburgh:

Piscotty, a 24-year-old rookie, had been batting .313 with seven home runs, 15 doubles and 39 RBI in 227 at-bats.
