5 Questions That Can Move You Closer To Your Dreams

Andrina is a manager at a fast food restaurant, a job she's held for the past 15 years. Day in and day out, she dutifully serves customers, but what she really wants to do is go to law school so she can advocate for children. Andrina is passionate about her dream, but admits that she has a hard time walking away from the familiarity she has known for so long.

When she attends a taping of "Oprah's Lifeclass" with Steve Harvey, Andrina asks the best-selling author and television host what's really stopping her from pursuing her passion and why she can't seem to leave behind a job that, though stable, brings her so much frustration.

"You've got to take the lid off of your dreams," Harvey tells her.

Oprah agrees, adding that once you're on the path toward your dreams, it doesn't exhaust you the way an unfulfilling job would. "When you're doing what you love, it feeds you," she says. "You don't get tired as much... It fuels you."

In his book, Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success, Harvey outlines five questions that people like Andrina must ask themselves if they want to move closer to their dreams:

  1. Am I excited about waking up in the morning?
  2. Am I sitting around all day bored out of my mind?
  3. Do I have time to do everything that anyone asks me to do?
  4. Do I have time to watch all of my scheduled television programs and not miss an episode?
  5. Do I believe I can achieve my dreams by myself? (You can't, say both Harvey and Oprah.)

For the fifth question, Harvey offers a crucial piece of advice. "If you believe you can accomplish everything on your own, I have news for you," he says. "You're doing nothing."

Steve Harvey offers more career and life advice on the second part of his "Oprah's Lifeclass" appearance, airing Sunday, September 14, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
