Strike Allowing Networks To Expand Election Coverage

It's looking like the writ ers' strike, already in its sixth week, will give the broadcast networks an opportunity to change their plans and showcase primary campaign coverage in prime time.

Considering CNN snared a record 4.5 million viewers for the Nov. 28 GOP candidates' debate - and with the obvious interest in the 2008 presidential candidates - this could pay handsome dividends for the networks if the strike drags on and dries up original programming.

NBC is already devoting an hour of prime-time coverage Feb. 5 to "Super Tuesday" - which refers to the 20 primaries taking place that night.
