Tarp Goes Wild During Rain Delay At Joliet Slammers, Southern Illinois Miners Game (VIDEO)

WATCH: Tarp Goes Crazy At Illinois Baseball Game

For all the new-fangled technology on display at ballparks around the country the age-old problem of inclement weather has surely not been solved. All sorts of gadgets can let folks at the park know that a storm is coming but then the scramble is on. Recently fans in Joliet, Illinois learned just how hard it can be to battle the elements as they watched the grounds crew at Silver Cross Field struggle to tame a tarp in wild winds.

A recent game between the Joliet Slammers and the Southern Illinois Miners ground to a halt due to a storm in the top of the seventh inning with the Miners visitors leading, 7-4. Strong gusts of wind uprooted a tarp and sent it flying across the field, folding over on itself and gathering in a pile. Spectators watched as some of the crew were gobbled up by the unruly canvas, but luckily no one was hurt.

Perhaps the incident could have been averted had the Slammers hired Bill Murray as their "Director of Fun." If it's one thing that Murray has, it's an ability to show tarps who is boss.
