Taylor Momsen Talks 'F**king Messed Up' Inspiration Behind Her Songs

Taylor Momsen is featured in 'Interview' magazine talking about her band 'The Pretty Reckless' and transitioning from 'Gossip Girl' actress to musician. Taylor, 17, has previously said she would rather be compared to Kurt Cobain than Courtney Love, but here she says she won't complain about the comparisons because Love is "awesome."

Here are some excerpts, see photos and read the whole thing here.

On whether she is tired of Courtney Love comparisons:
"No, because she's awesome. She just isn't one of my idols or direct influences, despite what people think. The public decided that for themselves, but I'm not going to complain, because she is great."

On her controversial song 'Going Down':
"It really is just a story and people have made a big deal of it. I grew up Catholic and there were elements in that which meant something to me, but when we wrote this song, it was during the time that all the molestation in the church was going on. The song is a direct reaction to that and I think it's fitting... I try to write in a way where the lyrics have many meanings and you won't really know what's behind it. With that song, for example, it's not meant to be what I actually wrote it about--you'd never figure out what I'm talking about, because the actual inspiration is so fucking messed up. A lot of my songs work on multiple levels."

On her famous eyeliner:
"I have a bounty of products. Bedhead's black eyeliner is really good--it lasts a long time--but the only thing is you can't smear it, so I have smudge black eyeshadow around it. Also, lately I have been using red eye makeup!"
