A junior high student in Puyallup, Wash. was arrested Thursday for reportedly plotting to shoot up his school Columbine-style.
The 14-year-old's plan was revealed to police after the student tried to recruit his Aylen Junior High School peers in the shooting, The News Tribune reports. He faces investigation on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and is to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon, but will not be charged. No other arrests have yet been made.
The student made references to "doing a Columbine" at his school, and reached out to around eight other students to assist him, KING5 News reports. Two other students are considered suspects.
There's currently no evidence that the teen had direct access to weapons, but may have been attempting to recruit students who did, according to KOMO news. There was also no indication of a specific date planned for the attack.
"We are going to keep working on the investigation through Puyallup police," deputy prosecutor Fred Wist told The News Tribune.
Last month, two high school students were arrested after a shooting that injured 15-year-old Caitlyn Abercrombie, who was shot in the neck at her school in North Carolina. Police identified the suspects after viewing school surveillance footage.
