Don't expect there to be a marijuana-related competition scheduled anytime soon, but Tennessee's governor did officially sign legislation into law that will permit a four-year study on the benefits of the medicinally-beneficial cannabinoid Cannabidiol (CBD).
This particular legislation, Senate Bill 2531, doesn't add Tennessee to the growing list of states that have laws on the books allowing marijuana to be used for medicinal dedications. But it does however add the Bible-belted state to the ever-growing list of what has been coined as "CBD-Only" states that have passed similar bills as of late.
So, what happens now? Well, as it currently stands, Tennessee's famed Vanderbilt University has been chosen to conduct the research, while Tennessee Tech has been selected to cultivate the marijuana for the study.
Most resident pro-marijuana advocates feel the bill as written is too restraining. Although some would argue that any form of marijuana legislation seeing victory is momentous, realistically the bill's restrictive language may end up only helping a limited number of individuals suffering with epilepsy.
I think we're all looking forward to the day when we reflect on the success of marijuana legalization on a national basis and wonder why it ever took so long to see the light.
Help end the ignorance and get involved on a grass roots level by letting those in Congress know that you have had enough of the lies and it's time to legalize!
