The fight in Kansas' 4th Congressional District is heating up. Democrat Raj Goyle and Republican Mike Pompeo had their first debate Thursday night at Wichita State University. The theme of the night was jobs.

"It's the most important issue facing the economy and the district. I'm focused like a laser on jobs and the economic development of South-Central Kansas...We need to put Kansans back to work," Goyle said in an interview after the debate.

During the debate Pompeo took credit for creating jobs at Thayer, a company he co-founded. Goyle accused him out outsourcing jobs to Mexico instead of creating them at home.

Both candidates support leaving in the George W. Bush's tax cuts, which President Obama is not in favor of doing.

Pompeo blamed the recession on a bloated federal government. Goyle has slammed Pompeo for saying "My role, as I see it in Congress, is not to bring jobs back to Kansas." He has been running an attack ad whacking him for his comments. Watch the ad below:

About 800 people turned out for the event, according to The Wichita Eagle.

A recent poll finds Pompeo holds a 10 point lead.
