'The Big Bang Theory' Finale: Howard And Bernadette Get Married Before Liftoff (VIDEO)

'Big Bang Theory' Finale: Wolowitz In Space? Married?

The writers of "The Big Bang Theory" (Thu., 8 p.m. ET on CBS) didn't want anyone speculating all throughout this season finale on whether or not Howard and Bernadette had gotten married. The action picked up on the launch pad where Howard told his fellow astronauts that he'd tied the knot before the mission.

So all the hiccups along the way that are typical were a bit more anti-climactic, as everyone knew they would get there in the end. The end turned out to be a rooftop wedding, with the other five friends all acting as officiators thanks to the power of the Internet. Amy held double duty as the Maid of Honor -- complete with tiara.

As unusual as it was, nevertheless it was a touching ceremony by television standards. Each of their friends had personal words for them before the pair gave their own vows. Bernadette's father reluctantly handed her off to Howard, while Howard's mother shouted from a distance. And in the end, Howard blasted off to space, so the show fulfilled every promise of the season.

"The Big Bang Theory" will return to CBS in Fall 2012.
