The Black Keys just can't seem to stay out of the headlines. One day after calling Van Halen's decision to tour without bassist Michael Anthony "f---ing retarded," the band is now suing both Pizza Hut and Home Depot for allegedly using songs from their most recent album, El Camino, without permission.
Frontman Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, together with producer Danger Mouse, filed the suit yesterday in Los Angeles, reports Bloomberg.
The band claims that Pizza Hut used "significant portions" of its single, "Gold on the Ceiling," in an ad for Cheesy Bites Pizza. As for Home Depot, The Black Keys alleging that the home improvement retailer used the track "Lonely Boy" in a commercial for power tools.
Auberbach and Carney's lawyers called the use of the songs "a brazen and improper effort to capitalise on [the] plaintiffs' hard-earned success" in the official documents. The Black Keys claim that it sent letters to both Pizza Hut and Home Depot last month, asking them to stop airing the commercials.
In recent months, The Black Keys not only described Nickelback's music as "watered-down, post-grunge crap," but Carney also called Napster co-founder, Sean Parker, an a--hole.
