The Flaming Lips' 'God Only Knows' Cover For The Beach Boys' Anniversary (AUDIO)

The Flaming Lips Cover The Beach Boys

Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys is arguably one of the best albums of all time. Now, on the 50th anniversary of the group's conception, Pet Sounds is getting a makeover. In celebration of this golden year, MOJO magazine released an album of covers for Pet Sounds.

The Flaming Lips made an appearance on the album to cover "God Only Knows." The Flaming Lips' cover more or less does justice to the original track, but their interpretation is characteristic of the noise pop they're known for.

As if that wasn't enough Beach Boys, the group released a buried preview of their first song in 16 years called "That's Why God Made The Radio." The song appears in a promotion for their upcoming reunion tour, but there are enough clips to piece it together. It's a syrupy surf rock balad dedicated to the medium that shot the group to popularity 50 years ago.
