'The Good Wife' Adds Talia Balsam Of 'Mad Men' Fame To Season 5

'Mad Men' Actress Heads To 'The Good Wife'

According to TVLine, Balsam -- who played Roger Sterling's (John Slattery) now-ex wife Mona on "Mad Men" and who recurred on "Homeland" as Cynthia Walden -- will play a political reporter in an early episode of the CBS legal drama's fifth season.

Balsam is just one of the many new faces popping up on "The Good Wife's" upcoming season: Melissa George of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Hunted" fame will play Marilyn, Peter Florrick's (Chris Noth) in-house ethics counsel; Juliet Rylance has signed on as a potential new love interest for Kalinda (Archie Panjabi); Ben Rappaport will appear as a fourth year from Lockhart/Gardner; and Jeffrey Tambor will appear in the Season 5 premiere as a judge.

"The Good Wife" finished its fourth season with Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) winning the gubernatorial race, making his wife Alicia (Margulies) the first lady of Illinois. Her new position is one reason the character decided to leave Lockhart/Gardner with Cary (Matt Czuchry), Margulies said.

"I really think Alicia is not doing it out of any facetiousness. I think she's doing it out of survival and knowing that she has to get away from Will and out of the shadow of Lockhart/Gardner in order to really commit to being first lady," Margulies told ETonline.

The new season will pick up With Alicia and Cary trying to get the new firm started and Margulies teased, "There's some stuff brewing that I think will be a little explosive."

"The Good Wife" Season 5 premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
