The Leftovers Recap: Did They Really Do It? in 'Cairo'

I begged for something to happen and got more than I bargained for this week. It still doesn't make any sense, but you can feel some momentum building up. About time.

I begged for something to happen and got more than I bargained for this week. It still doesn't make any sense, but you can feel some momentum building up. About time.

1) Kevin is bonkers. It feels like he and Nora could be semi-normal together, if he weren't so busy blacking out and camping in the woods, in Cairo, NY. Remember when he beat the dry cleaner up and stole white shirts? It wasn't the GR that took them. It was him. He has a little camp. And the dog killer? He wasn't the one instigating all of this nonsense. Again, it's the Chief of Police kidnapping dogs and assaulting women. That's the spoiler for this episode: Kevin kidnaps Patti and wants her dead, until he comes to. They have an intense heart to heart in which we learn a few things. First, it doesn't matter what happened to the departed. That's the whole point of the GR and the show. Fine, I'll stop complaining about wondering where the heck they are. Secondly, the GR kills its own members to prove that point. Patti killed Gladys, not some hick. And Lori is next, except that Patti offs herself with a knife and dies in Kevin's arms. Things are so messed up.

2) It's funny that Kevin's subconscious wants to attack the GR in a weird way to avenge them for brainwashing his wife. Maybe he's saved Lori, but by putting Patti in a place to kill herself, Lori is next in line as head crazy-woman. She already likes the feel of the desk. And now Jill has come, too. If your mom won't come back, you might as well go to her.

3) Is it that her dad has a new woman she doesn't trust that makes her head to the GR house? Or is it that Aimee might have slept with her dad? Do we believe Aimee or was she just being an uber mean friend?

4) I wonder how long it will take Jill to be initiated. Liv Tyler's character is not good at the silence thing. Please, was I the only one who couldn't stop thinking of the scene where she slaps A.J. in 'Empire Records' when she was beating the minister up? She is good at whining/yelling and slapping men.

What are you guys thinking? Where is Tom? Let me know @karenfratti or in the comments.

"The Leftovers" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
