'The Originals' Premiere: Klaus Makes A Shocking Move After Elijah Saves Him From Himself (VIDEO)

Klaus Makes A Shocking Move In 'The Originals' Premiere

On the series premiere of "The Originals," fans got a remix of the backdoor pilot that aired last season on its parent series, "The Vampire Diaries."

While last season's episode centered on Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) experiences in New Orleans, we saw everything through Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) eyes in the show's premiere episode. While there were plenty of overlapping moments, Elijah proved he could be a compelling lead character in a series.

But all of that was put into question by the end of the hour. After Elijah helped Klaus secure a deal with Marcel, the new vampire leader of New Orleans, Klaus made a fateful decision: he daggered his brother.

“I have realized one massive vulnerability, one weakness, that Marcel could exploit," Klaus told Elijah. "You."

Entertainment Weekly's Mandi Bierly is hoping the daggering is only temporary. "This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Klaus dagger Elijah after Elijah came to his rescue (if you’re a 'TVD' fan)," she wrote. "But it made me gasp. Partly because I don’t want to see [actor Daniel] Gillies sidelined for any period of time. Partly because… no, that’s pretty much it. Fix this, Rebekah. And quick.”

"The Originals" airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
