There is power in knowing what you want, period.

When you know what you want you're not easily distracted by focusing on things that do not best serve you or your business.

A few days ago a client called me and asked why she always seemed to end up working with clients that weren't her target audience. She went on to explain that her recent projects left her unhappy and she wanted to know how to turn her situation around.

I responded to her question saying, what exactly do you want to do? and who do you want to work with?

The clients that she wanted to work with and the type of projects she wanted to focus on were complete opposites to what she was doing. She knew what she wanted but allowed her current circumstances to dictate the direction of her business.

There is power in knowing what you want, and when you allow present circumstances to deter you from that path you end up digging a deeper hole and you only furthering your unhappiness.

I understand that being in business for yourself is hard, there are no safety nets, guarantees or sure things. However when you don't go after what you want in business you end up signing your only business death certificate, because sooner or later you won't be able to continue doing what you're doing because your heart is not in it.

The same can also be said for knowing what you want in life.

Spend five minutes today looking at your life and business, and ask yourself if you feel happy doing what you're doing. If your answer is anything but ''hell yeah,'' then its time to take stock and work out a plan to get your business and life back on track.

Excuse the pun, but the truth shall set you free, and perhaps make you wealthy!
