The Remote, Lonely Wilds Of Chilean Patagonia (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Faustino Barrientos might just be the most isolated Chilean in all of South America. And a video crew from Vice recently went to find him -- and learn what it's like to live in a shack in the wilds of Patagonia, surviving by his wits and holding off the seemingly unstoppable tide of modernity.

In a 35-minute film that premiered February 16 at the Explorers Club in New York City, host Adri Murguia tells Faustino's story, a fascinating look at the lifestyle of the Chilean gaucho. (*SEE PHOTOS & VIDEO BELOW*)

Interestingly, Faustino, for so long isolated on the shores of Lake O'Higgins, has recently allowed a neighbor onto his land to help herd his animals and watch over the hardscrabble parcel that he's called home since 1965.

But even one of the world's most remote corners, the film reveals, isn't immune to tourisms' currents, both good and bad.
