'The Seventh Son' Trailer: Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore Go Head To Head In 'Wardstone Chronicles' Adaptation

Popular Children's Fantasy Series Heads To The Big Screen

Popular dark fantasy books "The Wardstone Chronicles" are heading to the big screen, and the trailer for the first entry in the popular series -- "The Seventh Son" -- has made its way online.

Jeff Bridges portrays Master Gregory, whose devilish former captive, the evil witch Mother Malkin (Moore), seeks vengeance upon escaping. The master works to train his apprentice (Ben Barnes, who played the title role in "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian") so he'll be able to ward off the witch's terror once she and her minions strike. Naturally, the movie is brimming with dragons, battle sequences and soaring landscapes.

The first book in Joseph Delaney's "The Wardstone Chronicles" -- titled "The Spook's Apprentice" -- was released in 2004, with 14 total entries slated to comprise the series.

"The Seventh Son" hit a roadblock over financing that prevented it from meeting its target release in October. Legendary Pictures was forced to put up nearly $5 million to complete the medieval film's visual effects after VFX house Rhythm & Hues filed for bankruptcy. The movie will now hit theaters Jan. 17, 2014.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post indicated that "The Seventh Son" was based on the Orson Scott Card novel of the same name.
