'The Walking Dead' Ratings For Season 3 Finale Set Series Record

'Walking Dead' Unstoppable In Ratings

"The Walking Dead" ratings for the Season 3 finale were the show's best yet, by a hair: 12.4 million viewers tuned in and the show had 8.1 million viewers in the key 18-49 demographic.

“Two words: Grateful. Dead. It’s a joy that we get to work with such tremendous talent to make ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Talking Dead’ come to life for audiences that continue to engage and grow," Charlie Collier, AMC’s president said in a statement. “In just three seasons, ‘The Walking Dead’ has become a pop-culture phenomenon, entertaining millions of passionate viewers and obliterating traditional lines between cable and broadcast television.”

The finale of "The Bible" on History had 11.7 million viewers
. "Game Of Thrones" Season 3 premiere had 4.4 million viewers, its highest ever.

Since its debut, "The Walking Dead" has been a ratings champ for AMC, breaking cable ratings records. The Season 3 premiere broke ratings records with 10.9 million viewers ... only to have the midseason premiere break that record months later with 12.3 million viewers.

Though a ratings success, "The Walking Dead" Season 3 finale had a mixed reaction from fans and critics. HitFix's Alan Sepinwall said, "Great character moments coexisted alongside questionable storytelling decisions -- sometimes in the same scene."

TVLine's Michael Ausiello chimed in via Twitter.
