The World's Best Summertime Destinations

Scads of summer revelers consider the end of the school year or the Memorial Day weekend the beginning of the season, but for many, it doesn't really kick into gear until summer solstice in late June.

In this time of fireworks displays, Slip 'N Slides and soft serve ice cream, we've named the The World's Best Summertime Destinations, a varied list of 25 urban escapes, coastal getaways and vacation refuges likely stoke wanderlust in most any traveler.

Topping the list is Barcelona, Spain, the cosmopolitan Catalonian capital considered one of the jewels of the Mediterranean. The destinations range from exotic locales (Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand, and Boracay Island, Philippines) to domestic hotspots (Santa Barbara, Calif., and Vail, Colo.) -- and and everything in between. The selections were drawn from the more than 60,000 places visited by the more than 2.5 million registered Trip.com users, their friends and travelers in their network.
